Sig - disambiguation
Sig - disambiguation
'Sig', as a word contraction for 'statistical significance', has two main uses. On the one hand, as a p-value (p) (also referred to as an "exact level of significance"). On the other hand, as the level of significance chosen by a researcher using Fisher's approach to tests of significance (often contracted as "p" or "α"). As such uses create confusion, recommendations for sorting out such confusion are also given.
contraction for | used by | recommendation | |
---|---|---|---|
sig | p-value | SPSS | rewrite as 'p' instead |
sig, s | level of significance (Fisher) | Perezgonzalez | use 's' or 'sig' instead of 'p' or 'α' |
