Sheep milk's BNI

Perezgonzalez assessed the nutritional balance of sheep milk as for human consumption in 2012. Results were based on USDA data (20113).

Sheep milk had, on average, a nutritional balance of BNI 81.45sf, being particularly biased towards excess of saturated fat. It was adequate in protein and sodium, low in carbohydrate and fiber, and high in sugar and fat. It also provided about 193mg of calcium per 100ml of milk.

Methods

Research approach

Exploratory study.

Data

Collated from USDA (20113).

Materials & analysis

Relevant data were collated, then assessed using the Balanced Nutrition Index™ (BNI™) technology (see Perezgonzalez, 2011b2). SPSS-v16 was used for the computation of variables, including BNI and international indexes, and statistical analyses.

Generalization potential

Limited to USDA's scope (20113). Thus, results may be most representative of the US, yet limited by how the original data were collected.
