Population

Population

A population is a group of people, objects, etc studied as such a group. Descriptive statistics are enough for knowing all what is there to know about a population.

more often than not, however, a population is never studied. Instead, a representative group of such population (a sample) is chosen, and inferential statistics is then used on the sample in order to make inferences about the population at large.
